Tsitsipas: "I'm very moved and proud of myself".

Emotions ran high for Stefanos Tsitsipas after his victory over Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 final on Sunday (6-1, 6-4). The Greek was in the midst of a crisis of confidence when he arrived in Monaco, and had not expected such a fine outcome. There are many reasons for satisfaction, and he was very proud of himself after the match.

Tsitsipas: "I'm very moved but also very tired. It's been a tough week and I knew I still had to make a little effort to get to the end.

The score was close (in the 2nd set). On match point (at 6-1, 5-4, 30-40 on Ruud's serve), I had to give everything at that particular moment because I didn't know if I was going to get another opportunity. And the way I handled that point... I'm actually prouder of that point than any other in the match. I built up the point quite well and ended it with a winning shot, which is the best way to end a match.

I'm very proud of myself today. It's a very happy moment. I've been longing for moments like this for a long time. To be back on the podium and holding the winner's trophy. I really didn't know what was going to happen this week and in the end I got the best scenario."
