Gael Monfils advanced to the second round of the Bucharest tournament, by defeating the Italian player Filippo Volandri, seeded n°2, in two sets (6-3, 7-6). He will face, for the next round, the winner of the match between the Argentian player Vassallo Arguello and the Autrichian player Eschauer.
