Garcia:

Garcia: "Getting stronger for the French Open and the Olympics".

Caroline Garcia played the perfect match on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals on the indoor clay of Rouen's Kindarena. The Frenchwoman made short work of Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-1, 6-0 in 47 minutes). This Friday, the French No.1 will face Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse (who beat Clara Burel) for a place in the semi-finals.

Delighted with her performance against Schmiedlova, Garcia wasn't bragging either. Lucid about the fact that you can't count on such sensations every day, and reminding herself that her objectives for the clay-court season lie elsewhere.

Caroline Garcia: "We're going to take all the positives, but I'm not going to get carried away - I've seen others (...) Matches like today (Thursday) can be counted on the fingers of one hand in a 20-year career. There were some very good things on my side, but she obviously wasn't having a good day. (...)

This is the start of my preparation on clay. My aim is to try and step up my game, play as many matches as possible to get my game in place, continue to progress and train for the next events coming up, the French Open and the Paris Olympics."

Sorry to see Lehecka having to retire. I believe he could have won the tournament.

I think the court conditions are very heavy which is causing these hip/groin injuries
